a new direction

Since I'm now officially a Ph.D. candidate in physical chemistry, I'm going to use this blog to post and share cool things about science.

Here's a cool article published last year from Journal of Physical Chemistry A: http://phys.org/news/2012-05-lemons-lemonade-reaction-carbon-dioxide.html

antimony mania

Today's random fact:
Fluoroantimonic acid is 2×10^19 (20 quintillion) times stronger than 100% sulfuric acid.

Thoughts:
If 18 mol H2SO4 gives you a pretty good burn, then fluoroantimonic acid must eat your hand off. Good-bye hand. Also, the man who first operated under anesthesia (Horace Wells) assaulted two prostitutes with sulfuric acid. He was arrested and committed suicide. Dentists back then were a little crazy, like Karl Koller (or Coca Koller since he was seriously into some cocaine).

and a joke:
What did 0 say to 8?

Nice belt.
